..."Since a young age I have had a passion for the outdoors and in particular horses. I realised that as I got older that I wanted to be able to help horses in ways outside the typical realms of Veterinary Medicine. A horse can only do what it's mind and body allows. The more I rode the more this became apparent and the greater my desire to help..." Becky.
I have been working for around 10 years as a freelance rider and trainer in and around Lincolnshire. I have also been competing with my own horses in various events. I have competed within Novice British Eventing, Newcomers in British Showjumping and Medium British Dressage.
All of this experience has increased my understanding of horses and whilst I enjoyed the riding I explored my options and having experienced many sessions of therapy over the years decided that this was something I wanted to explore. It would give me the chance to work with both horses and other riders. I Settled into Sports Massage Therapy and now have patients from a variety of walks of life.
After years of needing treatment I have a better than most understanding of how important it is to stay mobile. I had a great interest in completing the course in Equine Massage but first had to learn human massage. This has proven beneficial in the long run and given me a great client base across Lincolnshire.
I feel that it is important to listen to my clients and learn about their needs. The client is the one needing the treatment and it is important to listen to both what they say and what the body tells me in order to offer the best treatment and advice possible. Experience along with training allows me to offer relief from pain and discomfort, improved healing times and improved quality of life to all my patients.
Having ridden and competed in equine events for many years I have a personal understanding of the requirements of horses and riders.
It was important to me that I achieve high quality training. I selected a school accredited by the SMA.
I gained a Level 4 Diploma in Human Sports Massage that was run by SPS.
I have undergone CPD Training to further my skills allowing to me carry on with Equine Massage Training.
I completed the Equine Massage Training. A course that was run by Helen Tompkins of Animal Therapy Solutions. Helen was an amazing tutor and was taught by and worked alongside Mary Bromiley for 8 years.
This is the the ONLY course accepted by the Equine Sports Massage Association. The leading National orgainisation for Equine Sports Massage Therapists. It is renowned for its high standards of excellence.
Recently I have expanded my training into new areas and looked into more traditional techniques that will work alongside and independently from my massage work. This is currently only work I carry out with human patients.
I have completed courses in Reiki, Gentle Release Therapy Techniques and Fertility Massage.
I hope to continue to expand my knowledge in all areas in the future and learn new techniques to benefit my patients - both human and equine. It is important to me that the training that I receive is to a high standard and comes from tutors that have experience and training in their field.
It is vital in an ever-changing world where people are under more and more stress that therapists like myself are equipped to offer advice that comes from experience and training in different cultures, techniques and methods. This allows us to offer the best we can.
Massage has a huge place in the future of treatment and more and more people are turning to treatments off the realms of modern medicine as the system is not giving people what they want. My many patients and experience tell me that massage does work and can improve the lives of each and every one of us.
